Football Partners Join GAMSTOP Campaign

Football partners have teamed up with GAMSTOP in a new awareness-raising campaign.

The new #TakeBackControl2024 scheme is aiming to tell more people about the benefits of using the GAMSTOP programme, which allows individuals to self-exclude from betting sites.

By signing up to GAMSTOP, users will no longer be able to access their online gambling accounts and stopped from signing up to new ones.

GAMSTOP is free to use and it does not take a lot of time for users to sign up to the scheme.

The organisation has reported a significant increase in self-exclusion registrations over the course of the first half of the year.

GAMSTOP is currently averaging nearly 2,000 new registrants every week, demonstrating the scale of the gambling addiction problem in the UK at the present time.

The new Labour government said in its manifesto that it would be targeting reform of the UK’s gambling sector, but prime minister Sir Keir Starmer has yet to provide more details.

Growing Awareness of Issues

Chief executive officer at GAMSTOP Fiona Palmer explained why now is the right time to be raising awareness of gambling-related problems.

“The increasing number of registrations we have seen in the first half of 2024 could reflect a growing awareness and proactive approach among individuals to tackle gambling-related issues,” she said in a statement released to mark the scheme’s launch.

“Gamstop’s mission remains steadfast: to provide a crucial safety net for those struggling with gambling. The continuing rise in registration figures affirms the importance and effectiveness of our service in helping people reclaim control over their lives.”

GAMSTOP Continues to Grow

The national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling recently announced that since its launch in April 2018, it has hit a major milestone.

More than 500,000 people have signed up to GAMSTOP in the past six years, though some of these have cancelled their membership to return to online betting.

At the moment, more than 440,000 people in the UK are currently excluded via the GAMSTOP platform, which means around one in 10 of those who joined no longer use it.

GAMSTOP is getting more popular as a way for people to gain control over their gambling.

Indeed, back in April the scheme broke a record for the number of people signing up in a single month, with some 8,686 new registrants joining.

UK Gambling Commission data has shown that betting is still expanding fast as well, though.

The country’s online gross gambling yield has hit record amounts for two quarters in a row, demonstrating the importance of GAMSTOP offering users a way to stop their betting.
